we got an understanding about what is Information Literacy.We came to know what the subject going to teach us.As the subject was new to us at first we couldn't understand but after referring the notes we got a clear idea on the subject.





First we came to know what is Information Literacy?

  • It simply means the ability to identify what information is needed , to understand how information is organized and to identify the sources available and using the information ethically.
  • Its so important for every students to get knowledge  on this because as we are in the modern world  the use of information technology is increasing day by day.Its by getting a knowledge on Information Literacy we can face challenges.

Then we learned  about the problems that is faced due to the lack of information skills.This might be a great loss for the ones who are not trained under the Information Skills.The major problem will be in  our  society  is they will find wrong information what is available and  mislead the information.

overall In secession 1 we got a brief idea on what is Information literacy.

started with the Information Literacy process .Information Literacy process is a structural plan for solving the problems.It is a program where the learner should find , understand and train and make up himself by searching various Information in order to create a personal , social or global purposes.The Information Literacy process shows us the BIG SIX stage process .

The BIG SIX process helps us to solve problems and make correct decisions  by using this Information .

  4. Use of Information
  5. Synthesis 
  6. Evaluation  








This session teaches us the way to make a Research process.It means Choosing a wide Topic ,Getting an idea and formulating Questions  and making small  statement on the topic.














   Primary Source -



Is the first-hand information and it states what happened during an event or a period time. Some Examples for Primary Sources as follow

























Secondary Source - 

Is the second hand Information which express the experience and opinions of others. It is written after the fact. Some Examples of Secondary Sources as Follows

 • Journal Artists
 • Books
 • Documentaries
   Radio and T.V )







Tertiary Sources - 

Is the collection of Primary and Secondary Sources.it includes most types of references. Some Example for Tertiary Source as Follow

 • Bibliographies of bibliography
 • Directories of directors
 • Guides to the Literature




















This session teaches us the services provided by the library for students. Some services are Leading Books, Printing, Photocopy, and Information Search and so on.



 Encyclopaedia

There are two types of Encyclopaedia

 1. General Encyclopaedia 
     (Encyclopaedia Britannica ,     
      Encyclopaedia Americana)
 2. Special Encyclopaedia 
     (McGowan-Hill Encyclopaedia of Science and 
      Technology, International Encyclopaedia of 
      Social Sciences)
























Dictionaries 

This source helps us to find the definition, spelling pronunciation, Synonyms, antonyms and homonyms and so on. Some alternate names of Dictionaries are     
Glossary, Lexicon, Thesaurus, vocabulary.

                                 
















Year book: records the annul development of a geographical area.

    Periodicals Publication 


    Published on a regular or recurring basis-daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, or annually.

    We learnt 2 types of classification
    • Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC)
    • The Library of Congress Classification (LCC)
    We came to know the advantages and disadvantages of using classification schemes.
