SEARCH STRATEGIES
In week 5 we learned about strategies to search a word or a thing. I already talk about search tools, I hope you still remember but today I will let you know about search strategies. How we are going to find the right information and it has a quality. That is in short we got to know which cases we should use keywords,subject headings, phrases and single words.Single words are main points to learn in search strategies basic.
- Keywords- These usually gives us more resources,a broader search
- Subject Headings- A standardized vocabulary,usually gives a specific resources
Boolean Searching
- This refers to the combining terms such as AND,OR and NOT used in building a search statement or in putting several sets together.Found by George Boole

- This is the way of displaying the results for OR,NOT and AND
Boolean Searching is a combining term such as AND, OR. NOT used in building a search or statement or in putting a several set together. It known as the most common and basic search strategies
- By using OR between word it expand the search
- By using Not between word it exclude word from the search
Truncation and Wildcard
Truncation expand the search to locate all word begin with the same root and they are normally end with the same root word.
Example : teen* will give you the information about teen, teens, teenage or teenager.
Wildcard is a special character, such as asterisk (*), question mark (?) or pound sign (#) that replace one or more letter in the word. It usually represent a single character.It uses in the middle of word to match usually known variants of a term
Example : wom?n will return woman, women and womyn
